Biography

David Croser is a farmer/singer/songwriter, living on a small farm out of Minlaton, in the district of Koolywurtie, on Yorke Peninsula. S.A. The farm produces barley and beef cattle. He has been involved with music since the early 60's, learning to play the guitar using correspondence lessons. He was a rhythm guitarist and vocalist with local bands the "New Minlatones" and "Gum Flat Revival" between 1970 and '87 winning several Country Music awards at Portland (Vic) and in the Riverland and Port Pirie (S.A.) His song "Fuelled up and Rolling" was used as the title tune for a cassette produced by the band.

He has recently fulfilled his ambition to record a country music CD of 14 tracks, called "Proud to be a Farmer," writing the words and music for 7 of the songs, including the title track, based on a lifetime of living and working on the land. Eleven of the songs are Australian, 2 are Gospel songs, and most of them have a farming or country theme.

David has entered and won awards at Country Music Talent Quests as a solo artist and songwriter since 1997 at Mt. Gambier, Port Pirie and Port Augusta. He was placed 3rd in the 2000 APRA S.A. He was also a featured artist in shows at the Tamworth Arcade, Oasis Hotel, and Riverside Park.

After Tamworth, David and his wife Helen, travelled down to the Bungendore Country Muster, which was held at the Bungendore show grounds, about 30 km. east of Canberra. David was one of the 3 finalists in the New Talent Section in the Stan Coster Memorial Australian Bush Ballad Awards as a result of entering his CD in the awards. Although he didn't win the award, he was pleased to be in the finals, especially as the song that he entered was one of his originals called 'Lucky Old Cowboy.' 2005 Tamworth Trip Report (see pictures below)
David Croser, "the Cocky from Koolywurtie" was the only male singer songwriter, from South Australia to attend the 'Hats Off to Country" festival in Tamworth in July. While he was there he was a guest at the Camerata graduation concert...a feast of young talent from Australia and N.Z., aged between 12 and 17. The concert this year was held in the beautiful Tamworth Town hall, and was open to the general public, for the first time in the four years that the Camerata has been held..

David had a special interest in meeting Julie Perandes, the poised young lady from Manly, Queensland, whom he had sponsored to attend the Camerata on behalf of the Australian Bush Balladeers Association. South Australia was represented at the Camerata by Tiffney Stroh, from Mt. Barker. Tiffney had won the Cindy Shelton Memorial scholarship made available by the South Australian Council for Country Music.

(The "Camerata" is a week long music school where the young entertainers receive tuition and assistance toward helping them develop their full potential in their chosen country music field.)

Despite the fact that David had left his farm for the trip to Tamworth with only half of his barley crops sown, and a pile of work waiting for him when he returned home, he was glad he had burnt the midnight oil for a few nights so he could get away. While in Tamworth he was interviewed on radio 2 YOU F.M. and was also interviewed by "The Leader" newspaper that subsequently submitted a detailed report.

On the Friday he was a guest artist at the South Tamworth Bowling Club, singing three original compositions. On the Saturday afternoon he was one of the featured artists at the Bush Balladeers concert held at "The Pub", in Tamworth.

This was a three hour show, also featuring Jeff Brown, Jeff Gibson, Matt Manning, Graham Doubleday, and 4 Camerata graduates...Julie Perandes, Daisy May Wegener, Bart Thrupp and Amos Morris

While in Tamworth, David joined the ACMF (Australian Country Music Foundation) which has just announced plans to build an 'Australian Country Music Hall of Fame' estimated to cost around $12,000,000.

On the way through Broken Hill, David called in to see Nev Molloy to arrange a time to work on another CD. He will return to Broken Hill in late September, where he will record his 2nd CD. This time, all the songs will be Australian, (including 5 of his originals and 2 written by his wife, Helen.) It is planned to have 15 tracks, and will be titled "Man on the Land" which is one of David's original bush ballads.

David was one of the artists at a variety concert, called 'Top of the Crop on Y.P.' at the Wallaroo Town Hall on Friday 12th August, and will be performing at the second 'Bindmurra Country Campout, to be held on October 21st to 23rd, on Bindmurra Station, near Blanchetown.
