| Chrissie Murphy
Chrissie Murphy was born at Strathalbyn and lived at Ashbourne S.A. until her family moved back to Broken Hill. Chrissie has always been interested in singing and had done so at school and related festivals. Finally Chrissie had the opportunity and courage to get on stage at a Broken Hill Country Music Muster in 1990 and hasn't looked back since. Chrissie teamed up with Nev and Jodie Molloy as Country Lace and proceeded to do shows at local hotels with Chrissie and Jodie doing vocals and guitar and Nev Molloy on lead guitar. With more shows in the diary and more people seeing the potential in Chrissie it wasn't long before the "Chrissie Murphy Band" was formed and bookings took off, having shows in S.A. and around the outback including picnic races gymkhana's country music festivals, clubs & pubs in the four states (Vic, S.A., N.S.W. Qld) Chrissie has won her fair share of those little shiny things that gather dust on the mantle piece and says that it was a good experience to enter into those contests. What Chrissie sees as her greatest achievements is putting on shows for charity and worthy causes Chrissie even organized a flood relief concert in Broken Hill (for those affected by the 2000 floods) Also travelling to isolated communities around the bush doing shows with her current band "Hi-Way 32". Dusty smiles and real country warmth and hospitality is always a pleasure to meet at the end of hours of travelling outback roads, and when Chrissie Murphy & Hi-Way 32 are in full swing the atmosphere is electric, with years of experience and a repertory of songs from ballads to country rock they posses outstanding qualities as a dance / party band and certainly know how to entertain. Chrissies influences over the years has been - Slim Dusty, Nev Molloy, Graeme Hugo, Greg Bunnet, Martina McBride, Tania Kernaghan, Patsy Cline, Beccy Cole, Corinna Cordwell, Hi-way 32 Hi Way 32 "Bad Boys of Country" The name of the band came about when the guys had settled in with Chrissie as her band and wanted their own name so to be recognized, and so no repeat episodes to embarrass them when they play by themselves and someone asks them "which one is Chrissie". The name Hi-Way 32 is taken from the highway that runs through Broken Hill (Adelaide to Sydney) Under the watchful eye of Manager Paul Kemp the band did many shows at Wilcannia's Golf Club performing to late then after packing up the equipment would spend the next four or so hours on that highway dodging kangaroo's to get home. Scott "Scotty Yoakum"(Chrissie's brother) came from a successful metal / grunge band and after being brained washed by his sister and mother has been playing lead guitar in the band since approx 1996. Garry Schindler on drums also came from a successful local band known as "Hard Country formerly known as Sundown" and has played for Graeme Hugo & Iron Bark as a fill in on a few occasions. So with all this extraterrestrial knowledge (metal / grunge / rock) from the boys fronting the band (Scott) you can see how "The Bad Boy's of Country" came about!
