GLEN R PARSONS

My musical career started at Nailsworth Boys Tec, instead of playing football at lunch time I played in school band. My music has been influence by listening to Bob Dylan, Donovan, Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Lee Kernaghan, Slim Dusty, Paul Kelly and many more.

Got involve in the folk scene in my late 20’s my first gig was at Gingers Coffee Lounge in Melbourne St. North Adelaide.

Went to many a folk festival, playing and mixing sound at 17th National Folk Festival at Murray Park Teachers College.

Played just about every night at Cumberland Arms Hotel, also set up gear at the old Creole room North Adelaide where we had a full on muso’s club after midnight on a Friday and Saturday night for quite a few years. I also ran a folk club North Adelaide Hotel.

1982 took out 3rd prize for my song Morgan for the songwriters competition at state folk festival Morgan.

1984 took out 3rd prize for my song Days of Sunshine and rain at Murray Bridge state folk festival.

2006 took out 3rd prize for male vocal at Mount Gambier.

After a few years in Adelaide I bought myself a 28’ boat and live on the River Murray at Mannum playing in the Callington Bushband while building houseboat pontoons and repairing boats which inspired me to write river songs.

In 1986 I started going to Barmera Country Music Festival when Rocky Page was alive, for the last 22 years playing and backing artist from country rock blue grass to bush ballads, playing guitar, mandolin and dobro. I and also played at Mildura Country Music Festival backing Bush balladeers.

I moved to Loxton in the Riverland SA. With my partner where my daughter and son were born, she is in Adelaide Uni these days doing her bachelor of music, the music flows through our veins just like the river.

I work as a mobile boilermaker welder, trading as Glen Maintenance Service and formed Longdrop Bush band playing at bush dances also had a country rock band called Goldrush.

My music has taken me through a different styles from folk, rock ,bluegrass, bush ballads and even blues, I feel have played a full circle more comfortable towards writing and playing folk, country, river and bushballads. Leading the single life the last 11 years I’ve played more folk and bush ballads at folk and country music festivals. I love the friendship and mateship between the audience and muso’s which inspires me to songwrite, I have recorded and produced 6 CDs Riverboats & Rivermen, Journey of Dreams, Moments of your life, Song on the wind, Riverfolk, and Give me just one minute, written with my songwriting soulmate and partner Annie Monk forming a duo called Longroad.

ANNIE MONK
I was introduced to country music at a young age.  My father played guitar and sang. My love of music has followed me through the years, mainly singing along to radio CDs etc.

For the past ten years I have been going to music festivals and lived in Mildura. I also line danced and then became a line dance instructor. I still enjoying my first love music, yes even achey breaky heart!  I also have been writing songs for some years.

And only now am I recording a few of them. Ironically in 1999 I met Glen  at the Mildura music festival and gave him my first song to put music to which was called Annie your hearts not broken [its just a tear] it was to be eight years later Glen and I met up again, at Blanchetown country music campout in 2007.He is now my partner and together we are  song writing and performing at gigs, and we also run Riverland Muso’s and Songwriters the first Sunday of the month in Loxton SA .Glen and I are planning  a trip around Australia in the near future doing what we both love most ,writing and singing our songs.

Hope to see you on the track one day.

Sincerely,
