MURRAYLANDS MUSIC

FESTIVAL

At a time when festival committees are struggling to survive Noel Kneebone and his committee have done an excellent job developing the Murraylands Music Festival. This show offers an excellent talent quest as well as a well balanced show featuring some of the cream of South Australia’s talent. The show will run on Friday and Saturday 5th and 6th of March. There is a cabaret on the Friday night and the Saturday show  features a talent quest and a great line up of artists running from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm.

Artists this year include Wild Card, Trevor Warner, Sandra Humphries, Mallee Blue, Sherrahs, Alison Hams, Kristy Cox, Charlie McCracken, Wally Sparrow and Gary and the Rustlers (make sure

February  21st will be a very special day for country music supporters in South Australia. For the first time there will be several country music concerts presented as part of the Fringe Festival. The shows will be staged in the Adelaide Botanical Gardens.

There will be two shows the first starting at  1.30 pm and finishing at  4.30 pm. This show is free to the public. The second show starts at 7.30 pm and finishes at 11 pm. This show has a cover charge of $10.

The concept started in early 2003 when Wally Sparrow was asked to present an afternoon of country music in the gardens. The show was very successful and well supported so the Botanical Gardens management decided to run with country music as part of their contribution to the Fringe Festival.

The afternoon show features The Sherrahs, Grass Roots, Mercia Manners, Loni Manners, Owen Blundell and will be compered by Ian List. The evening show will feature the new Travis List Band, Vanessa Lee Shirley, Leah Briggs, Owen Blundell, Frankie J Spencer, Fiddlers Festival and will be compered by Wally Sparrow.

Fiddlers Festival is a fiddle playing spectacular, which has been drawing rave reviews from all around the world. Since they accepted the  booking they have been booked to perform every day at the 2004 Adelaide Festival of Arts. There are six performers on the show including South Australia’s own Andrew Clermont.

There will be stage set right in the middle of the Botanical gardens so there is plenty of room for the audience. Bookings are not required but people are asked to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. For further information you can ring Wally on 0419 591 894.

you lock up your horses and cattle.)

Entry on the Saturday is $10 for adults and a gold coin for school children. You can get further information by ringing Noel at Tailem Bend Primary School 08 8572 3266.

This will be a great show so make sure you log it in your diary.

DAVID PARKER MOVES ON TO NEW

CHALLENGES

David Parker took over as editor of the Prelude in November 2001 and has done an excellent job producing a most informative newsletter ever since. He has also worked as treasurer for the Council during that period.

Unfortunately David had personal commitments that he needed to spend time on so he has resigned from the Council. It is hard to find good volunteers in any organisation and David is a person who would have a lot to offer in whatever role he decided to take on.

On behalf of the Council and all country music supporters we thank you David for your efforts above and beyond the call and wish you all the best in your new endeavours. Come back soon!
